The sun turns into electricity to replace coal, hydroelectric and nuclear power

Vietnam started construction of the first solar power plant. A group of Vietnamese and Russian scientists developing a solar cell project in Vietnam is capable of generating twice as much electricity.

The first solar electric energy project was started in Binh Thuan province. Solar power plant is built on the land with total area of 50 ha, capacity of 30 MW factory. This information has attracted the attention of Russian and Vietnamese scientists working at the VinIT Institute of Technology, which was established two years ago at the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

They jointly developed four projects in accordance with Vietnamese conditions. Among them is a high performance solar cell development project that can be used in Vietnam.

Professor Nguyen Quoc Sy of Moscow Power Engineering University, the new head of the VinIT Institute of Technology gave an interview with Sputnik-Vietnam. He noted that, after stopping the nuclear power program, the Vietnamese government paid special attention to the development of alternative energy sources. First of all, to the sources of energy that are considered to be permanent, renewable. Including solar energy. According to the International Energy Agency, by 2050, solar energy will be exploited at the lowest price.

Therefore, the decision of the Vietnamese government approved a year ago about solar energy development is very correct and timely, – Mr. Nguyen Quoc Sy emphasized. – At the same time this is an ambitious decision. According to the plan, by 2020, Vietnam will operate solar power plants with a total capacity of 4.7 GW, in the future with greater capacity. Even in China and the US, solar development plans are more modest; However, there are nuclear power plants in these two countries. To implement this plan, Vietnam must solve many problems. For example, attention should be paid to the fact that these plants only operate when there is sunlight. In addition, attention should be paid to the fact that there is not much unused land in Vietnam to install solar panels. Vietnam should also set up solar cell manufacturing enterprises, because now Vietnam imports this equipment mainly from China. However, the performance of imported batteries is low – 15-18%. Therefore, it is necessary to use new generation solar cells with higher efficiency.

A research group of Russian and Vietnamese scientists from the Institute of Technology is implementing a project in Vietnam to use solar cells, which developed in Russia, – Sergey Kognovitsky, a leading researcher of the Institute of Physics Technical St. Petersburg, said in an interview with Sputnik-Vietnam.

We have reduced the amount of semiconductor materials in this type of battery, the new battery is much smaller, but has higher efficiency than the existing batteries. In the laboratory, the performance is up to 46%. These panels are installed on solar monitoring systems to collect sunlight. Moreover, these panels can be installed both on the roof as well as on the column – in this case, the surrounding land can be used for agricultural needs: cultivation, cattle grazing.

Vietnamese and Russian colleagues in the High-Tech Research Institute believe that third-generation solar cells developed in Russia will occupy a worthy position in the plan to develop solar energy in Vietnam.
